A stitch type should follow the shape of the artwork. It should not become a shortcut for finishing a design quickly.  
A broad leaf, narrow outline, tiny flower center, and curved animal body all have different stitch needs.

Fill stitch works well across larger areas, but it can make narrow borders look heavy.

  
Satin stitch can create a cleaner narrow edge because the stitches sit across the width of the shape. It also gives the thread a consistent surface that catches light in a controlled way.  
For example, a thin floral outline may look crisp with satin stitch but bulky with a short fill.  
I check the actual width of the shape before selecting the stitch. If the area is too narrow for stable satin stitches, I may simplify the border slightly rather than force a stitch type that does not fit.

Flowers, leaves, vines, birds, and animals depend on curves. Straightening those curves may make the file easier to build, but it can remove the movement from the original artwork.

This kind of editing takes judgment. Simply deleting every small detail is not simplification; it is loss of information.

I check the fabric type, thread weight, design size, and neighboring sections before changing density.

If a large floral border extends beyond the available area, I first look for a natural stopping point.  
Do not cut through the most important part of a flower or animal just because the hoop ends there.

Instead, consider:

-   Repositioning the entire motif
    
-   Dividing the design at a natural boundary
    
-   Redrawing a border
    
-   Simplifying a repeated section

I prefer a clear scan, high-resolution photograph, or original artwork whenever possible. The reference should show:

-   Full motif boundaries
    
-   Internal details
    
-   Color relationships
    
-   Curves and corners
    
-   Repeated elements
    
-   Border spacing
    
-   Any important small symbols
    

If a reference has shadows, folds, or missing areas, clean those issues up before tracing. Otherwise, the digitizer may accidentally treat a wrinkle or image artifact as part of the design.  
It also helps to keep the original reference available throughout the process. Do not rely only on a cleaned vector drawing because small visual details can disappear during tracing.

  
**Test-Stitching Before Finalizing the File**

A screen preview tells you how the file is structured. A test stitch tells you what the structure actually does on fabric.

  
This is where I check the things that software cannot fully predict:

-   Are the curves still recognizable?
    
-   Do the colors separate clearly?
    
-   Is the density too heavy?
    
-   Are small details visible?
    
-   Do adjoining sections line up?
    
-   Does the fabric remain flat?
    
-   Does the stitch direction create the right visual effect?
    

I also inspect the back of the sample. A messy backside can point to problems with sequencing, trims, jumps, or thread handling.
